Julien Debreuil

Julien Debreuil is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal College of Music.  In 2005 he became a member of the Welsh National Opera Company, performing with the company for two years. 

Julien is an active soloist in opera, concert, and recital.  He has recently performed in Stockholm Concert Hall, St John's Smith Square, Birmingham Symphony Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, The Wigmore Hall, Buxton International Opera Festival, Dartington Great Hall, Oxford Lieder Fesitval, Chelsea Schubert Festival and Cadogan Hall.  In 2006 Julien was a finalist in the Hampshire Singer of the Year, Surrey Young Singer of the Year and John Warner Memorial Award Competitions.  The following year he was awarded a Wingate Scholarship and this year has been awarded a full scholarship to study on the 2010 edition of the Solti Te Kanawa Accademia di Bel Canto in Castigliano della Pascaia.  As one of only twelve singers selected by audition, this will include three weeks intensive study with Joan Sutherland, Richard Bonynge, Kiri Te Kanawa and Jonathan Papp. 

Julien has won scholarships for study on the Dartington International Summer School Advanced Opera Course, The London Master-classes, Benslow Music Trust and the Oxford Lieder Festival Master-course.  He has also taken part in master-classes with John Tomlinson, Thomas Allen, Dennis O'Neill, Richard Van Allan, Sergei Leiferkus, Janet Baker, Sarah Walker, Gerald Finley and Thomas Hampson. 

Future engagements include Haydn's 'Maria Theresa' Mass in St. James' Spanish Place; Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra and Ligeti's Lux Aeterna & Requiem with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall; Filippo in Verdi's Don Carlo for Opera Minima at the Northampton Playhouse; Oreste in Glück's Iphegenie en Tauride for the Somerset House Summer Festival; Colline in Puccini's La Boheme for OperaUpClose at the London Soho Theatre from August 2010 through to January 2011; a recital of arias and songs by W. A. Mozart, H. Purcell and Britten with the Constanza Consort in St. Mary Aldemary, Filippo in Verdi's Don Carlo for Midsummer Opera in St. John's Waterloo and Handel's Messiah for the Constanza Chorus & Consort in St. Mary Aldemary.  

Julien is also a busy singing teacher, recent students having been awarded scholarships to major British and American conservatoires and Oxbridge chapel choirs.  In his free time Julien is a keen practitioner of Ashtanga Yoga, Capoeira and the Alexander Technique and enjoys playing a lot of football, squash and running.
