Simon Clulow

Simon Clulow studied singing at The Royal Northern College of Music. He has performed the alto solos in most of the popular Baroque choral works and in the liturgical works of the classical period. A selection of past performances includes Messiah at York Minster, Free Trade Hall, Manchester and The Anvil, Basingstoke, St. Matthew Passion in Aachen, Saul at St John's, Smith Square, Samson at Southwell Minster, Bach St John Passion at Hereford Cathedral and Portsmouth Cathedral, Bach St Matthew Passion with Highgate Choral Society, Bach Magnificat and Mozart Requiem at the Wiltshire Music Centre, 'The Yorkshire Feast Song' and Duets by Purcell at The York Early Music Festival which were broadcast by Radio 3 and Bach Christmas Oratorio with the Chameleon Baroque Ensemble for Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society. He has also performed at The Queen Elizabeth Hall in a vocal ensemble with O Vertigo Dance.

In opera he has worked with several companies including The City of Birmingham Touring Opera, English Bach Festival, and at The Battignano Festival and The Halle Handel Festival. Roles have included Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream (Britten) at Snape Maltings and at The Royal Northern, Orfeo (L'Orfeo-Gluck) with Scottish Opera-Go-Round and Narcisso (Agrippina-Handel) at Buxton Opera House. He has also performed in recital with the lutenist David Miller at The Wratislavia Cantans Fest in Poland and performed the alto duet 'Sound the Trumpet' with James Bowman at the Royal Holloway University St Cecilia concert in 2006.

As a professional chorister he has worked with The B.B.C Singers, The Gabrieli Consort and St. Paul's Cathedral Choir and was a lay clerk at Manchester Cathedral whilst at The Northern. 

He is currently based in Somerset where he has enjoyed solo engagements with Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society (Vivaldi Gloria) at Wells Cathedral, Bath Bach Choir (Come Ye Sons of Art - 60th anniversary concert), Bradford upon Avon C.S (Mozart Requiem/ Vivaldi Gloria/ Bach Magnificat), Chew Valley C.S (Purcell verse anthems), The Beaumont Singers (St John Passion), The Maisbury Singers (Purcell Te Deum & Jubilate/ Messiah) and The Mid Wessex Singers (Hail Bright Cecilia). In recent years his solo work has taken him as far as Kendal in the Lakes and to Portsmouth in the south and he continues to enjoy performing with a variety of different groups and societies.

He is also a singing teacher at Millfield Senior School.
