Alexandra Stevenson

After studying at Edinburgh University, Alexandra was selected for the Associated Studios Opera Programme in London, which she completed with the generous support of the Richard Carne Trust. Whilst studying on this course, she took part in masterclasses with Janice Chapman and Jonathan Cohen. Alexandra studies with Andrew Watts and has been coached by Donald Maxwell, Catherine Bott, the late John Shirley-Quirk and Sophie Daneman.


Solo performances in cathedrals and concert halls throughout the UK and Europe include the works of Bach (Cantata 51); Handel (Messiah); Haydn (Nelson Mass); Mozart (Mass in C Minor); Rossini (Petite Messe Solennelle); Elgar (Coronation Ode); Orff (Carmina Burana) and Poulenc (Gloria). More contemporary solo repertoire includes Will Todd's Mass in Blue and Patrick Hawes' Te Deum, of which she gave the UK premiè€re conducted by the composer. As a recitalist, Alexandra has performed at the Guildford International Music Festival, the Portsmouth Festivities, the Chelsea Schubert Festival, the National Gallery in London and the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. She has also appeared twice as a soloist with the Band and Orchestra of HM Royal Marines. On Christmas Eve 2016 and Easter Eve 2017, Alexandra was featured as a soloist by Classic FM.


Operatic engagements include Belinda, Dido & Aeneas; Plaintiff, Trial by Jury; Dew Fairy, Hansel and Gretel; Le Feu, L'enfant et les sortilè€ges and Monica, The Medium. In 2014, Alexandra performed the role of Princess Sabia at the world premiere of Malcolm Archer's work, St. George & The Dragon.


As an ensemble singer, Alexandra deputises with the choir of St. Bride's Church, Fleet Street and features on their CD The Spirit of Christmas. Alexandra is also a lover of jazz, and has performed at the Pigalle Club, Piccadilly. She is delighted to work for the charity Lost Chord, presenting recitals to dementia patients in care homes across the UK. Alexandra directs the Girls' & Adults' Choir at Holy Trinity Church in Guildford and teaches singing at Charterhouse School.
